Roots of Success for High Schools is an empowering environmental literacy and work readiness curriculum that prepares young people to take on society’s most pressing environmental problems and social issues, identify innovative solutions and put their ideas into practice.
The curriculum provides core academic proficiencies, job readiness and professional skills, and information about green jobs and career pathways across multiple sectors of the economy.
Every lesson, activity and project is aligned to the Common Core English Language Arts College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards. As students go through each lesson, they build their reading, writing, speaking, listening, language, and professional skills. The curriculum also meets High School Environmental Literacy standards developed at the state level.
The curriculum works well for students with different learning styles and from diverse backgrounds. Our pedagogical approach focuses on student success, building on student’s prior knowledge and experiences, making learning relevant, and connecting education to employment.
The curriculum’s strength comes from how it delivers information. We recognize people learn better when they engage with the material, are encouraged to learn from one another, understand how what they are learning prepares them for future opportunities and are able to apply the lessons to real world problems.
